The Gospel

I was reading Romans 5:8 this morning -- "But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us."  That verse is our theme verse for our Confirmation class and it communicates so well the core of our faith.  God proves his love for us in the gift of his Son Jesus Christ.  God did this for us before we were even born or had knowledge of God.  Christ chose us before we chose to follow Christ.  We love because he first loved us.  That is the good news -- the gospel.

  1. This verse is a great comfort to those such as myself who are continueally aware of our past grievous sins, not to mention present sins of ommission and attitudes. In context, it raises an interesting question. Is His mercy contingent on our acceptance? Was the Roman Soldier forgiven? We have no record of his response. C. Hill
