Be Imitators of Me
I was reading I Corinthians 4:16 this morning where Paul wrote to the church, "I appeal to you, then, be imitators of me." At first glance that sounds like an incredibly arrogant statement -- "Be imitators of me!" Can you imagine what people would say to us if we went around saying, "Be imitators of me!" But Paul has a point here. If we are to be true witnesses to our faith in Jesus Christ then we ought to feel comfortable with others imitating us -- not in that we are sinless -- but in that we are on the path of salvation. We are following Jesus the best we can and rely on his grace, and in that sense then we can comfortably say to others, "Be imitators of me."

I can recall off and on asking why inconsistencies exist between what is taught about Jesus by how people live and what is spoken about. Eventually, someone told me I think it is better to ask 'what would Paul do' rather than 'what would Jesus do' because we can better relate to someone who is fully human. Humans can witness to each one another how to deal with sin, practice joy, confession...simply spur one another on to surrender to a Holy God...inconsistency will happen, but I ask myself 'how do I deal with that'?
